NEW ZEALAND MADE
BOOTS FOR ALLIED FORCES P.A. AUCKLAND, This Day.
"American troops chasing the Japs out of the islands today are doing it in New Zealand made boots," said the Minister of Works (Mr. Semple), addressing the Point Chevalier meeting last night.
"What about giving them running shoes?" queried an interjector. "I would give them running shoes all right, the slit-eyed, yellow little monsters, with spikes inside and out," replied Mr. Semple. The Minister was speaking of New Zealand's war effort and, he added: "Russian soldiers chasing the Germans 'hell for leather' out of their country are also wearing New Zealand-made footwear." He gave details of supplies that had been made in New Zealand and sent to Russia to help keep Red Army soldiers warm in the severe winter.
