The public luke-warmness, and even opposition, to the big parade proposed &r Saturday has a hint for the Government. In the mam the opposition was due to the feeling that we had already celebrated the Italian victory sufficiently and we should not throw up our hats again-*t least until there was something more to cheer for. But on every side there was heard another, *hough minor ' objection. People said: "" hundreds of gallons of petrol can be used for parades of big trucks, why cannot we have a llttle of lt; °^ r" selves?" People are remembering that they have only a half-coupon for Petrol, that they have had only a triflin S rebate of motor licensing ™d insurance charges, that they cannot get taxis, that delivery difficulties (shortage of trucks as well as men) were pleaded only a few weeks a §° to excuse the
household coal famine, and that they still have to fetch and- carry all household requirements. They accept ihis v their deprivation helps to Sain victory, but they are not in the mood to cheer motor . processions. If the victory releases petrol, they know how !t can be otherwise use"
