AUCKLAND DECLINES
FOUR MAIN "REASONS P.A. AUCKLAND, This Day. ' A representative meeting of citizens of the Auckland metropolitan area today declined to collaborate with those organising the proposed war effort1 parades tor next Saturday because:] (1) It is unnecessary to further ad-: vertise 'New Zealand's war effort, which already is well known; (2) a parade to celebrate the surrender of Italy is premature, as the greater part of Italy is hot yet in Allied hands; (3) the Church thanksgiving services last Sunday provided ample ■ opportunity to express the country's joy and. gratitude; (4) the majority of citi- ■ zens, while unreservedly grateful to the fighting forces for tne manner in which the national traditions have been upheld, feel that true patriotism can be better displayed not only in saving petrol and other vital necessities, but in observing the British custom. of withholding jubilation until it is fully justified.
