PUNTERS AT TRENTHAM
Trentham racecourse was crowded on Saturday when the Wellington Trotting Club held its Spring Meeting. The day was perfect, and everything but the attire of the racegoers was springlike. ;' The countryside was dressed in tender new green, but the racegoers were in warm tweeds and coats, having been misled earlier in the day by the sky being overcast. A few drops of rain had even fallen.
The majority of the women were wearing fur coats and a large proportion of the remainder had furs or fur capes with their winter coats and skirts.
One of the few .dressed in a spring ensemble was Mrs. J. E. August, wife of the president, who wore a black frock and coat ensemble of lightweight material, a small black hat veiled in blue, a shoulder spray of hyacinths and grape hyacinths, and fox furs. Many of the hats worn had either fur or feather trimmings, and a few were eccentric in design.
A very large number of servicemen and servicewomen attended the meeting, and it was a pleasure to everyone to see a group of disabled servicemen and their escorts enjoying the outing as guests of the club. The flower beds were filled with spring blooms, and the cocktail lounge in, the members' stand was bedecked with giant daffodils.
