LONDON, September 12.. v The Russians again report progress at many points of the long battlefront from Bryansk to the Sea of Azov. . ;

Tonight's communique says that columns of the Red Army, fighting- their way towards the railway centre of Bryansk, have reoccupied more than 40 inhabited localities and stormed* several rail- ; way stations. . v "■

One column is now within 15 miles of the main railway line to Smolensk, while another has advanced 12 miles east of Bryansk, which may soon be within range of the Russian artillery.

Russian troops, pushing on from Bakhmach today, advanced six to seven miles towards the last railway junction on their path before Kiev, the capital of the Ukraine. They are now only 15 miles from this junction, which is 75 miles from Kiev.

Further south the Russians advanced 12 miles, freeing 70 inhabited places and occupying the town of Gadyach. The Germans continue to resist strongly south-west of Kharkov, but here, too, the Russians have advanced. In the lower Ukraine the rapid progress of the last two days continues. Russian spearheads, driving hard towards the Dnieper bend, advanced today between six to 18 miles west and south-west of Stalino, reoccupying over 50 inhabited localities.

German reports speak of fierce fighting on the" outskirts of the Black Sea port of Novorossisk.
