(N.Z.E.F. Official News Service.)
CAIRO, September 10.
The New Zealand .Club in Cairo is now in a strong position, having repaid to the patriotic fund all the money provided for establishment Costs, and also handed £20,000 over to the fund in two payments to provide for a reserve for possible establishment expenses in other theatres. At the quarterly meeting of the unit delegates of the club committee, Lieut-General Freyberg paid a tribute to, the management of the institution, which, he said, not only acted as a welfare centre but imported large supplies from New Zealand to supply unit canteens and V.M.C.A. canteens. No formation in the Middle East had been served better than the 2nd N.Z.E.F. Division. Everyone agreed that the establishment of the club had beexi justified by events, he said.
To mark tne fourth anniversary of the war, a national day of prayer was celebrated throughout New Zealand base camps. Suitable early morning services held in various centres were largely attended, after which training and other work proceeded according to schedule.
