VAST EARTHQUAKE
REPORTED IN JAPAN
LONDON, September 11. Broadcasts from India report a vast earthquake in Japan. Osaka, on Honshiu, the largest island of Japan, was among the towns which were serious, ly damaged. Hundreds of buildings were demolished, but the casualties cannot yet be estimated.

The earthquake was recorded at the Dominion Observatory at 8.45 on 'Friday evening^ which would correspond to the late afternoon in Japan. The recording lasted between two and three hours, fhe earthquake being a big one, although not as severe as some of the "world shakers" which have been recorded in the past.
