DOMINION'S RIGHT
LARGER ROLE IN EMPIRE
Rec. 10.30 a.m. LONDON, Sept, 12. The Dominions, especially after their excellent efforts during the war, were entitled to play a larger part in the British Commonwealth, both economically and politically, said Mr. Shinwell, the Labour M.P., in a speech in County Durham.
"It would be to our advantage to strengthen economic co-operation within the Empire," lie said. "This would not injure other nations with which We could promote economic arrangements on terms of equality. . "Why should not an Imperial Parliament be created in which all the Dominions aild colonies were adequately represented? That may solve, the Indian problem and could promote a higher standard of living throughout the Empire."' Mr. Shinwell said British-American co-operation after the war had to be based on equality and not dictated by American industrial and financial interests.
