FAMILY ALLOWANCES
Sir,—The mother of children is placed in an unfair position by the present Government's method of taxation and family allowances. My husband's wages were £5 ss, but he received only £4 7s 3d because of tax; 13s 2d, and superannuation, 4s 7d. I was getting the family allowance of 6s for three children, which brought our total income up to £5 5s 3d to keep five persons with. We could not-man-age on so low an income so my husband arranged to work extra time, for which he got £ 1 10s, less tax, 3s 9d, £ 1 6s 3d. But because he was willing to do this the Government informed me that I could not get the family allowance, so that now we are no better off. I cannot go to work'and earn £5 to £7 a week because I have three children to care for. Is there any won■? der women won't have children.—l am, etc.,
A DISHEARTENED MOTHER.
