Firce Kharkov struggle

LONDON, .August 18. Russian forces in the Kharkov area have won farther successes in the face of fierce German counter-attacks. Tonight's Russian communique reports that Soviet troops overcame enemy resistance and pushed forward at some points to a distance of four and a half to six and a half miles.

They occupied more than 50 places, including a town 22 miles south-east of Kharkov and on the main line connecting the city with Izyum. The Red Army continued its offensive in the Bryansk region. ~ '

It advanced from four to five miles in some sectors and captured nine large villages and 30 small ones. It captured two ' railway stations, one 22 miles north-east of Bryansk and the other 20 miles to the east.

On other sectors the Russians carried out fighter reconnaissance and there were exchanges of artillery and mortar fire.
