QUOTA NOT HALF FILLED

The Wellington metropolitan area's share of funds required by the Provincial Patriotic Council is still far from collected; more than half the amount expected is outstanding, with less than three months to go before the end of the financial year, on September 30. An energetic campaign is planned to make up the leeway. The Marton zone leads, having collected all but £2000 of its quota, and Wairarapa has also done well. Wanganui and Palmerston North, and then Feilding, are well up. The honorary treasurer of the Wellington Metropolitan Patriotic Committee, Mr. B. O. Peterson, reported at a committee meeting on Monday that up to July 15 the amount collected on account of the Wellington metropolitan quota of £100,651 was £42,857. This figure, with Wellington's proportion of receipts to be spread over all zones __£l9l4_rnade a total of £44,771, leaving £55,880 to be collected during the 2£ months remaining to the end of the financial year. The honorary secretary, the Hon. V. Ward, said that circulars were being sent out to 5000 Wellington firms appealing for funds to supply essential comforts for the troops in the field and the prison camps of Europe and Asia. No stone had been left unturned to make uo the balance of money required to keep faith with the Wellington men overseas.
