RUSSIAN SUCCESS
GAINS AT IMPORTANT POINT
LONDON July 13. The Russians have withstood new German onslaughts north and south of Kursk, and have won some local successes in each sector. The fiercest fighting is in the Byelg-orod region, where the Russians beat off German efforts to deepen and widen the wedge. North of Kursk, the Germans tried to improve their position, but the attacks were not made with the strength displayed on the previous day.
This morning Moscow radio said that one Russian counter-attack successfully drove the Germans out of a line of trenches. German tank losses in both sectors were 122. Only 18 enemy aircraft were shot down yesterday, and correspondents suggest that fewer were used in action.
In the south, the latest advice says, Red Army troops have fought their way forward in one important sector and recaptured the line they held before the offensive began.
