GENERAL FREYBERG

P.A. AUCKLAND, July 9. After a lightning tour of New Zealand, Lieutenant-General Sir Bernard Freyberg, V.C., returned late this afternoon to Auckland. On the way from Rotorua he attended receptions at Cambridge, Hamilton, Ngaruawahia Pa, and Huntly, and in addition made several unscheduled stops on the road |to greet and speak briefly to school children who had gathered to wave him enthusiastcially on his way. He revived an old and popular custom and caused a number of schools to be granted half and whole holidays. General Freyberg was' accompanied to Auckland by the Prime Minister 1 (Mr. Fraser) and the Minister in charge of Co-ordination of the Armed Forces (Mr. Perry). On his arrival he went straight to a reception • which had been arranged in the Town Hall by the Returned Services' Association.
