RAIDS ON SICILY

ENEMY PLANES GROUNDED

The enemy resistance was again weak. A correspondent says that the enemy yesterday was either worried or smothered so thoroughly that not a single attacking machine came up. This was all, the more remarkable because the. airfields at Garbini on Monday were defended by 100 Axis fighters. Palermo was bombed again, as well as an objective on the southern coast of the island, and three other targets. Sardinia is getting its share of bombs, and three airfields there, have been pounded by R.A,F. Wellingtons, All these raids cost the Allied air forces five aircraft. The enemy lost ten.
