BRIGADE KEPT BUSY
After a quiet week the Wellington Fire Brigade had a busy time over the weekend, being called to three chimney fires and two property fires, and answering a malicious false alarm to Hataitai. At 4 Devon Street on Saturday kitchen curtains blew across a match burning in an ashtray and caught fire, and the rear wall was damaged. Two machines from headquarters attended and bucket pump;were used. Bucket pumps were also used at 271 Willis Street, to which a call was received at 5.14 a.m. yesterday. Smoke was coming from a top window, and the brigade was told that the building was on fire, so four machines were sent from the Central Station. The only damage was to bedding, caused through smoking in bed.
