"FOR AS THE BODY WITHOUT THE SPIRIT (BREATH) IS DEAD, SO FAITH WITHOUT WORKS IS DEAD ALSO." (James 2:26.) WHILST it is true that "without faith it is impossible to please God" (Hebs. 11:6), it is equally true that "faith without works is dead." It is important to understand, however, that "works" performed by those who have not first been "justified by faith" are of no value in the sight of God. By nature all are unjustified sinners—alienated and estranged from God—"in Adam" —and that position must first be remedied before "works" will be acceptable to God (Eph. 2:1 and 12, Eph. 4£IS, Cols. 1:21, Cols. 2:13, 1 Peter 2:10, 1 Cor. 15-22, Eph. 2:8-9). Accordingly, God has decreed that "without faith it is impossible to please Him"; hence the Bible doctrine of justiHcation "by faith" (Boms. 5:1, ftoms. 3:22----28, Acts 13:39, Gals. 2:16, Gals. 3:6-11, Gals. 3:24, Hebs. 10:38). It must bo emphasised, however, that the faith which justifies must be faith in that which God has promised as revealed in the Holy Scriptures. God has made promises concerning His coming Kingdom and concerning the Saving Name of the Lord Jesus Christ. These promises (which constitute the Gospel of the Bible) are summarised in the Scriptures as "The things concerning the Kingdom of God and the Name of Jesus Christ" (Acts 8 :12, Acts 28 -.30-31). It is after believing these "things" of the Kingdom and Name and after having been baptised Into the Saving Nama of Jesus Christ that an unjustified sinner has been "justified by faith" —he is no longer "in Adam" but "in Christ" (Gals. 3:24-2'J, Mark 16:15-16, Acts 18:8, Boms. 6:3-4, Eph. 2:13, 2 Cor. 5:17, Roms. 5:1, Roms. 4:1-8). It by no means follows, however, that a person "justified by faith" is assured of .salvation. Salvation will depend on the life lived after belief and baptism, after justification by faith, for as seen from the quotation at the head hereof, "FAITH WITHOUT WORKS IS DEAD." These "works" are tho commandments of Jesus Christ concerning which Christ said, "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. - Ye are My friends, IF YE DO whatsoever I command you" (John 15:13-14, see also John 14:21-24, Luke 6:46-49, Hebs. 5:9, 1 John 2:4, Rev. 22:14). A pocket epitome of tho commandments of Christ (i.e., the "works" that must follow faith) may be obtained from address below. Reader, you will sec from tho foregoing that you cannot be "justified by faith" and pass out of Adam into Christ unless you believe (have faith in) that which God has promised. For a thorough exposition of God's "exceeding great and precious promises" you should read the book! "CHRISTENDOM ASTRAY." A Copy will tie sent free on application to "BIBLE TRUTH," Box 71.
