(0.C.) LONDON, April 22. . The engagement is announced between Lieutenant Guy Andre Labauve d'Arifat, the Gordon Highlanders, elder son of Dr. and Mrs. A. C. d'Arifat, of Curepipe, Mauritius, and Miss Barbara Katharine Harston, daughter of Major and Mrs. E. S. Harston (formerly of Wellington and now of London).
On April 5, 'at Calcutta, India, a daughter was born to Margaret (nee Waight), wife of Captain A. G. Hayter, King Edward Vll's Own Gurkha Rifles. Captain Hayter comes from Nelson.
The birth of a daughter is announced, on April 12, to Barbara (nee Whitby), wife of Flight Lieutenant M. R. Cable, D.D.S., R.A.F.V.R., of Wellington. On March 15, a daughter was born to Mrs. Norman K. B. Kimbell (nee Pamela Spurrier), at the Maternity Hospital, Preston, Lancashire. Squadron Leader Kimbell, R.A.F.V.R., formerly of Lower Hutt, who is a surgical specialist and gynaecologist, is at present serving with the medical branch of the R.A.F.
