TROUT FRY
STOCKING OF STREAMS
Mr. D. J. Gibbs presided at the annual meeting of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society last night. .The annual report, already published, was adopted. The fish committee recommended that owing to the closing down of the fish hatchery at Masterton following the resignation of the curator, the society's inability to secure fry from other acclimatisation districts, and the problematical outlook regarding the distribution of the hatched fry owing to transport difficulties, alternatives to the liberation policy be investigated in the present idle time before resuming the old policy. The appointment of additional field officers, with capacity for scientific observation, to rid selected streams of eels and shags and study the possibilities of natural regeneration was recommended.
The Governor-General, Sir Cyril Newall, was re-elected patron, and Mr. L. O. H. Tripp president. Messrs. T.- R. Boyd, D. J. Gibbs, W. A. R. Jones, and H. Goodwin were appointed to the vacancies on the executive caused by the customary retirements.
