A SUNNY APRIL

ALSO VERY DRY

Last month, although it did not establish any new record, was the sunniest April that Wellington has experienced for over 30 years. The number of hours of bright sunshine totalled 190.8, which is 37 hours, or over an hour a day, above the average. It is necessary to go back to 1910 to find a sunnier April. Although April was nearly three times as wet as March, it was nevertheless another very dry month. The total fall at Kelburn during the month was 1.48 inches, two inches below April's average. These 148 points. added to March's meagre total of 55 points, make only two inches of rain for the last two months, whereas approximately 6_ inches is what can be normally expected in March and April. Temperatures last month were above the average, more especially during the day. The month's mean temperature was 56.7 degrees, or 0.9 degrees above the average. The mean maximum temperature was 63,2 degrees, nearly 2 degrees above normal. Another pleasant feature about the month was the comparative absence of wind, the daily run averaging 162 miles, which is 41 miles a day less than normal.
