ENEMY ANNIHILATED
CHUNGKING, April 30. More than half the Japanese troops surrounded on the western slopes of the Taihan mountain range, on the northern front in China, have been annihilated, states today's Chinese communique. Fighting continues south of Linhsien. The military spokesman said that the Chinese control a V-shaped ridge in the heart of the Taihan range in spite of Japanese pressure from three sides. Japanese flyers, stepping up their spring air offensive, today made another attack against Lungling, on the Burma Road. Twenty-seven planes dropped bombs, and fierce air encounters took place. One report says that 10 enemy planes were shot down during this attack.
