BREAK WITH ROBERT
AMERICA & MARTINIQUE
LONDON, April 30,
The United Slates has repudiated all past agreements with Admiral Georges Robert, the Vichy commander in Martinique, and the American ConsulGeneral in Martinique has been, recalled. In a Note to Admiral Robert, Mr. Cordell Hull, the United States Secretary of State, recalls that in view of the admiral's attitude the United States considered him a tool of the Hitler regime which had enslaved his French homeland.
The Note declares that it was common knowledge that Martinique was being used more now for Axis military operations against the United States, and that the Vichy regime was now an integral part of the Nazi system. It adds that the United States Government does not recognise Vichy, and. will not recognise any French representative who remains subservient to Vichy. The United States stopped sending food ships to Martinique last month because of Admiral Robert's attitude.
