SLIGHT EARTHQUAKE
A slight and brief earthquake, of an estimated intensity of 3 on the Mbercalli scale, was felt in Wellington at 6.4 p.m. yesterday It was accompanied by a rumbling noise, but the shake passed unnoticed by many people. The distance from Wellington of its origin was about 60 miles. Tentative deductions from the records traced on the seismographs at the Dominion Observatory point to the depth of the epicentre being about 50 miles and to its direction being westerly from Wellington.
