HERE AND THERE

Lyall Bay Patriotic Shop Day. A vacant shop in Onepu Road, Lyall Bay, will be well stocked with cakes, jams, vegetables, etc., on Friday, and the patriotic committee appeals to residents to patronise the sale, the proceeds of which are for parcels for soldiers overseas. Relaxation After Work. Madame Taglicht, a highly-qualified teacher of physical culture, has been appointed director of Physical Education at the Wellington Y.W.C.A., and will hold classes for girls, business girls, and women, and for children. One of the most valuable assets of a human being is physical health, and more than ever before, these days call for strong, healthy, well-balanced people. The harder people work the more they need physical relaxation and recreation, and physical culture classes provide a perfect means of obtaining it. Miramar Hospitality. Dancing has proved the most popular pastime at the Miramar Fighting Services Hospitality Club during the past three weeks. Excellent teas have been provided by the R.S.A. Women's Section, Miramar branch, the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the girls of Taubmans, Ltd. Vocal items were given last week by Mrs. Christie, and the music for the dancing was played by Messrs. M. Jones and F. Munro. A small presentation was given to Mr. M. Jones, who has been with the club since it opened, and whose valuable assistance will be greatly missed; he leaves for the south this week.
