AUTHOR PILOTS ASHES SCATTERED AT SEA
RUGBY, January 25. R.A.F. fighters flew over the English j Channel today, but not as usual to meet the enemy. They flew to scatter on the sea the ashes of Flight Lieutenant Richard Hope Hillary, a pilot of the Battle of Britain, and author of "The Last Hope," who- was almost burned to death and came back to ' fight. Simultaneously, a memorial service held in St. Martin's-in-Fields was I held by members of the Air Force,1 also members of the Margate lifeboat crew which rescued Hillary when he was shot down two years ago. Canon Elliot, in an address, said that Hillary was a man of outstanding courage. He showed unconquerable spirit in hospital, and came back to overcome the "last enemy" in the air. —8.0. W.
