The Hon. J. G. Barclay, Minister of Agriculture and Marketing, arrived today from Auckland. Mr. N. B. Spencer, president of the Associated Chambers of Commerce, arrived from Auckland today. The Hon. P. K. Paikea, Minister in Charge of the Maori War Effort, was a passenger from Auckland today. i Mr, L. J. Coakley, a member of the Auckland City Council, and Mr. J. Melling, town clerk, are visiting Wellington. Mr. Jacob Elliott, a member of the Railways Superannuation Board, will leave for Auckland tonight. Mr. A. J. Danks, M.A., a master of the Christchurch West High School, has been appointed part-time lecturer in economics for 1943 by the Council |of the Canterbury University College. Mr. Danks obtained equivalent to firstclass honours in economics in 1938. Mr. G. H. Percy, 8.A., headmaster of the Opunake District High School, has been appointed an inspector of primary schools by the Education De- ( partment. Mr. Percy is well known in many parts of Taranaki, where he has been teaching for 20 years. In 1932 he was fir,st assistant at the Hawera Main School, and he has been head teacher at Turuturu School, Hawera, and Warkworth District High School. He joined the staff of the Opunake District High School in September, 1941. , .. ~ Mr. Joseph Zachariah, a member of tbe executive of the Eastbourne Bowling Club for the past five years arid secretary and treasurer for the last three, was presented with a wristlet watch at the weekend by Mr. W. Hornig, president of the club, to mark the appreciation of members of Mr. Zachariah's services. The president of the Wellington Centre, Mr. J. Norrie, also referred to Mr. Zachariah's work for the game.
