MR. JOHN BURNS
LONDON, January 24. , one of Britain's older Labour .leaders, Mr. John Burns, died in London today at the age of 84. He was one of the first two Independent . Labour members of Parliament and the first working man to'become a ' member of the British Cabinet. The late Mr. Burns came into public notice ia. 1890 as one of the leaders of the London dock strike, which had a great deal of public support and for the first time extended the Trade Union movement to unskilled workers. From 1906 until the outbreak of the first World War he was Labour Minister in Sir Henry Campbell-Bannerman's Liberal Government. When the war. broke out he resigned from the Government, and his public life came to .an end in 1918.
