INTERESTING DAY'S PLAY

Packed with Interest and excitement, play in the Wellington Cricket Association's senior competition on Saturday produced many changes of fortune. The series completed the first round, and several teams were fighting for places in the upper half of the table. One of these, St. Patrick's College Old Boys, fielded a strong side against the leading team, Wellington College Old Boys, and made a promising start By taking four wickets cheaply. Old Boys fought back strongly, however, and ended up with an easy win. Army, another of the teams half-way down the list, were comfortably beaten by University, while Petone were headed by Kilbirnie. Hutt secured an unexpectedly easy win against Midland-Wellington, while Karorl and Institute Old Boys reached that rare result, a tie, after Karorl had needed 40 runs when the last man went in to bat. The weather was fine and warm, and the wickets the fastest they have been this season. The championship points now are :—Welllngton College Old Boys 48, Hutt 40, Karorl 30, Kilbirnie 30, Petone 20. The bowling honours again went to Hutt, for whom Buchan bowled six overs, including four maidens, for five wickets at a cost of 3 runs. Muir took four of the rest for 15 runs.
