RACE MISHAPS

Saturday's racing, unfortunately, was not devoid of mishaps, three accidents to jockeys being witnessed. In the opening event, the Mungaroa Highweight, Royal Melton fell early in the race, and his rider, J. Hayes, sustained injuries that necessitated his being sent to hospital. In the succeeding race Transcript fell; and her rider, J. Garth, was severely bruised. When lining up for ithe start of the W.R.C. Handicap Tutere threw his rider, N. Holland. The young horseman had one foot caught in the stirrup, and the leg was wrenched so severely that he sustained a compound fracture just above the ankle; An inquiry was opened into the cause of J. Hayes's fall, but was adjourned till the hox-seman is available to give evidence! The fall of Transcript was found to have been accidental, being due to the horses on the inner veering out as the filly was moving up. The inquiry into interfeilence in the Telegraph Handicap on the opening day was resumed, but the evidence failed to disclose any foul or careless riding, and the happening was proved to have been accidental.
