POLICE INQUIRING

MAORI WOMAN NEAR FOXTON

(P.A.) PALMERSTON N., This Day. A Maori woman, Alice Takarua, aged about 30, single, who resided with her parents at Motuiti Pa, near Foxton, died in the early hours of this morning under unusual circumstances. So far as has been ascertained she went for a drive in a car with an unknown man. They returned to Motuiti about midnight, and the deceased's brother found her. in the car in an unconscious condition. Dr. Crawford, of Foxton, was sent for and arrived shortly afterwarcje. He found the girl alive, but unconscious, and she died a few minutes later. The Foxton police were immediately informed and Constable J. Forsyth at once communicated with Inspector Scott of Palmerston North. The. Inspector and Senior Detective Meiklejohn proceeded to Foxton. Investigations are proceeding. It is understood that the identity of the driver of the car has been established.
