PRISONERS RELEASED
TEST OF LOYALTY

General Giraud has decided to release a number of political prisoners, according to an official Algiers communique quoted by an agency in London. Their liberation, states the correspondent, is being based on proof of patriotism, without regard to the prisoners' identities. The communique does not reveal how many prisoners are being released, or how long they have been held in custody. It states that the action was coincident with General Giraud's assumption of power as High Commissioner. According to Morocco radio, General. Giraud has received from Pr^s'^H? Roosevelt a message expressing the American Government's pleasure at his collaboration in the fight against the Axis Powers.—B.O.W.
