LEAGUE OF MOTHERS

"HOME BRINGS POWER TO

THE NATIONS"

Her Excellency Lady Newall opened the Dominion Council meeting of the League of Mothers, which was held recently at the Wellington Women's Club. She was accompanied by Miss Nora Walton and was received, by Mrs. S. O. English, Dominion president, and Mrs. Leslie Wall, hon. Dominion secretary. Mrs. English later welcomed her Excellency and presented her with roses. "It is through the Home that power is brought" to the nations of the world," said Lady Newall in her address, "and if that value should not be realised to the full then woe betide the nation." HELP FOR YOUNGER MOTHERS. ; Work of vital interest to each province was discussed. It was agreed that the most important work for the league at this time was with the younger mothers who had many problems and difficulties in their homes, and the best way to help them was to see that each branch had a wellorganised creche, where children of members could be left during the time of meeting?. Lady Newall, in her opening address, aiso stressed the value of a creche and urged that constructive work be done by the children. The resignation of Miss Mary Richmond from the council was received with regret, and as an appreciation of her work for the League of Mothers since 1929, she was by unanimous vote elected the first honorary vice-presi-dent of the. Dominion. The members of the council spoke with great appreciation of. the work of- Mrs. S. O. English during the time df her- presidency and deeply regretted her resignation. On behalf of the members of the Dominion Council and the provinces, Mrs. Leslie Wall presented the retiring, president with a beautiful work box, and blotter with a suitably inscribed .■ parchment. On the proposal of Mrs. White she was made a vice-president. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Dominion president, Mrs. Leslie Wall; hon. acting secretary, Mrs. J. L. Sauriders; hon. treasurer, Mrs. R. W. B. Young. Other members of the executive were re-elected. The following morning was devoted entirely to magazine work, Mrs. Wall presiding, and in the afternoon Mrs. Cornish and her provincial executive invited Mrs. English and the Dominion Council to the Y.W.C.A. to meet branch presidents.
