RAIDS ON TUNIS & SARDINIA

General Eisenhower, Commander of the Allied Forces in North Africa, congratulated . the. air officer commanding Malta on the recent highly-successful bombing attacks 6ft Tunis and Sardinia. '
Reconnaissance shows that in Tuesday night's attack on the aerodrome at Sardinia an ammunition dump was completely demolished and all the neighbouring buildings destroyed or badly pitted, and aircraft in the vicinity damaged.; Bombs were dropped in low-level all over the aerodrome and the runway, and nearly a score of fires were lit.
The explosion of the ammunition dump rocked aircraft flying at 5000 to 6000 feet. The whole target area was covered with dense smoke, which rose to 6000 feet. At least four more enemy aircraft were destroyed, also a seaplane, and several others were damaged.
In Tuesday's attack on the Tunisian aerodrome the enemy was taken by surprise, and our twin-engined fighters; diving low, raked assembled aircraft, destroying 11. Junkers dive-bombers, five Junkers troop-carriers, and several others, and badly damaging 15 aircraft —8.0. W.
