RUSSIAN COMMUNIQUE
(Rec. 12.30 p.m.) RUGBYC Nov. 1 Soviet headquarters repc/rts:—
"In the Stalingrad area the Russians defending the outskirts of a factory repulsed an attack by infantry and tanks, who retired, leaving 270 dead and two tanks on the pajttlefield. Elsewhere in the same aiiea the Russians are active and have pushed forward.
"North-west of the city, a Russian reconnaissance unit penetrated an enemy position and killed 120 Germans.
"In the Nalchik area the Russians continued their stubborn defence and killed 300 of the enemy while aircraft attacked German, "tank and troop concentrations.
"East of Novorossisk an enemy company, disguised, in Red Army uniforms, tried to, penetrate the Russian, positions, but were mostly destroyed. "On the north-western front two enemy regiments attacked, and some Germans, at, great cost, succeeded In driving wecjjges into the Russian position, but lr/ter they were mopped, up and 300 were killed."—B.O.W.
