NEW FIRE STATION

Stokes Valley celebrated on Saturday afternoon the opening of its new fire station, which has been built entirely by the voluntary labour of members of the brigade. The material was supplied by the Hutt County Council. A lighted cigarette butt is thought to have been the cause of a fire in a chesterfield in a State house at 13 Strathmore Avenue, to which the fire brigade was called at 11.1 a.m. today. Tlie occupier of the house, bMrs. Harris, was temporarily absent, and the alarm was given by.a neighbour. The fire was easily extinguished with a bucket pump, and only the chesterfield was damaged.
