VICEREGAL. % Government House, Wellington, November 1. Their Excellencies the GovernorGeneral and Lady Newall attended Divine service at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul this morning. November 2. His Excellency the Governor-Gene-ral received Air Commodore R. V. Goddard, Chief of the Air Staff, this morning. The Rev. W.'.N..Plett and Mrs. Flett have arrived at Wanganui, where Mr. Flett was inducted as minister of the Baptist Church at the weekend. Mr. Colin Taylor, examiner for the Royal Schools of Music, London, is visiting Wanganui. Mr. Justice Johnston, who has been presiding at the Wanganui sessions of the Supreme Court, left for New Plymouth at the weekend. The Rev. P. J. Wainwright, minister of the Island Bay Presbyterian Church, has received a call to St. Peter's Church, Tauranga. The Rev. J. E. Ashley-Jones, vicar of Northland, is retiring from active church work and his resignation takes effect as from February l, 1943. Born and educated in England." He remained in Canada for five .years and then returned to England, and for some time was engaged in parochial duties in Painswick, Gloucestershire. Thirty-six years ago Mr. Ashley-Jones came to New Zealand and was appointed vicar .of Paraparaumu. About twenty years ago he was given chai'ge of the combined districts of Wadestown and Northland, and in the last four years he has been vicar of St. Anne's, Northland.

The Rev. F. L. Smart, for nearly six years minister of the St. Albans Baptist Church, Christchurch, and^secretary of the Canterbury Baptist Auxiliary, has now taken up his residence in Auckland.
