LONDON, November 1. It was revealed in Washington tonight .that ih the big naval and air battle in the Solomons six days ago units of the Japanese fleet were severely damaged. Four to six bomb hits were scored on a 17,000-ton Japanese aircraftrcarrier, and two medium bomb hits on a second carrier of the same class.

Two heavy bomb hits were scored on a battleship, a heavy bomb hit was scored on another battleship, and hits were scored on three cruisers. One hundred planes were shot down and many others probably damaged. The United States lost the aircraftcarrier, already announced'.^ and a destroyer.
