FIRST ROUND WON
JAPANESE FLEET RETIRES
LONDON, October 30.
In the Solomons units of the Japanese fleet have withdrawn to their bases, leaving the Americans in complete control of the airfield on Guadalcanal.
Colonel Frank Knox, Secretary of the United States Navy, said today: "The first round is over; we are waiting for the second to start." .
He added that there had been no interruption of communications in the Solomons and that supplies were getting through.
