COMPETITIONS SOCIETY

Regret at the necessary cancellation of the annual festival this year because of the impossibility of obtaining a hall after the earthquakes, was expressed in the report presented to the annual meeting of the Wellington Competitions Society last night. There were 3390 entries this year, compared with 3352 in 1941 and 3128 in 1940, and it was apparent that if the festival had been conducted it would have been a success.

The annual accounts, said the report, showed an excess of expenditure over income, but because of the prudent financial policy of the executive, the financial success of a concert held during the year, and the generosity of supporters, the loss was not large, and the statement of accounts was considered very satisfactory. Officers were elected as follows:—President, Mr. D. J. Constable (reelected): vice-president, Mr. F. R. Wooldridge; treasurer, Mr. F. Turner; executive, Messrs. D. J. Constable, J. A. Martin, F. R. Wooldridge, J. Watchman, Barton Ginger. F. Turner, W. J. Pronse. J. W. Cavr, J. W. Tclford, and A. T. Charles (all .remaining in office from last year), and E. R. Myers, S. Allwright, R. Mustchin, W. Cunningham, H. Brookcr, H. Hatch. W. E. Howe, G. W. Morgan, W. J. Mason,' and Major F. C. Gentry.'
