MORE BLOWS SUPPORT SOLOMONS

Bombers under General MacArthur's command have struck two blows in the past 24 hours in support of the Americans fighting in ithe Solomons. An enemy warship in Itabaul Harbour was hit and another vessel set on fire in a night raid by Flying Fortresses. Other bombers attacked the aerodrome and dispersal areas at Buna in the northern Solomons. They started extensive fires which were visible 80 miles away. At Rabaul, the Fortresses encountered increased anti-aircraft fire. A heavy explosion occurred in a warship, but the complete results of the attack could r\ot*be observed. Allied medium bombers strafed the aerodrome at Gasmata in New Britain with unobserved results.
