Japs Make Mass Landings On Guadalcanal

LONDON, October 29. There are signs that Guadalcanal may be the scene of a real Pacific showdown.

Unofficial reports from Pearl Harbour say that a strong Japanese fleet is moving eastwards, and that the Japanese have been able to make mass landings of troops. The Americans on Guadalcanal are now surrounded on three sides.

According to a message from Pearl Harbour everything depends upon the Allies getting reinforcements to Guadalcanal quickly. Meanwhile, Allied air support for the Solomons continues, and Eabaul in New Britain has had another raid.

All the bombers came safely back, but the crews report that the Japanese have greatly strengthened their anti-aircraft defences, no doubt a tribute to the recent big Plying- Fortress attacks.

A news, agency report from Pearl Harbour says that, the enemy on Guadalcanal has an advantage in heavy artillery, tanks, and supplies.
