NEW COUPON BOOKS

SECOND HALF-YEAR

New coupon books, containing 26 clothing and other coupons, will be issued on October 19. These coupons, together, with those from the first-book which have not yet been used, will have to last until the end of next May, the two books between them covering 12 months of rationing, The new coupons will be available some six weeks earlier than originally arranged, although the rationing basis remains for the present unaltered. This will enable purchases to be made of spring goods before that season merges into summer.

The rationing controller, Mr. J. E. Thomas, said yesterday that applications for extra coupons for sheets and blankets (but not for clothing) for fitting out of children going to boarding schools would be favourably considered, since it was realised that parents were finding some difficulty in managing on the number of coupons at present allowed.
