FINANCIAL AID

WOMEN IN SERVICES

The Minister in Charge of the Soldiers' Financial Assistance Board (Mr. Armstrong) stated today that it had been decided to widen the scope of assistance granted by the board to enable women recruited by the Women's War Service Auxiliary for fulltime service in the armed forces to apply for assistance. "This means," said Mr. Armstrong, "that women" in the armed services are placed on exactly the same footing as men in regard to the operations of the Soldiers' Financial Assistance Board. Assistance will be granted towards meeting necessary and reasonable current commitments which cannot be met from military pay. No assistance will be granted towards commitments of a luxury type or towards payments on account of debts in existence at the time of enlistment.

- : "Exactly the same / procedure as operates in regard-to men will be fol- ?■■ lowed, and'any applications should be •' made through the nearest branch of ■ the State Advances Corporation."
