SERGEANT OBSERVER COLE
Sergeant William Dudley Linter Cole, whose death on active service has been officially presumed, enlisted in the R.N.Z.A.F. at the outbreak of war. and left New Zealand for , the Middle East in November, 1940, in one of the first drafts to complete training in the Dominion. He was a student member of the N.Z. Institution of Engineers and .of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (London), and
until he joined the Air Force was doing his engineering training at William Cable and Cq.'s engineering works, Wellington. Sergeant Cole was born in London in 1920 and arrived in New Zealand with his . parents in 1922. He was educated at the Terrace School and Wellington College, where he was a keen cadet, won his Rugby cap, and did well at gymnastics, boxing, and swimming. He was an active member ot the Lyall Bay Surf Lifesaving Club. .
