HIGHRATPS LATE RUN

The Wellington Trotting Club's Patriotic Meeting was held at Trentham today in. perfect weather. The track, however, was very heavy afterovernight rain. Although having toj travel further afield than usual, there was a fair crowd for the first race, and the attendance increased as the day advanced. Results: — ARMY HANDICAP, £200; 1J miles. 6—4—Highrate, 48yds (J. Fraser) .. 1 B—6—Wee Pandora, 36 (J. A. Gerrard) 2 I—l—Parfaite,1 —l—Parfaite, scr (J. Fraser, jun.) 3 Also started: 12-12 Fantom scr, 11-10 Rival Chief scr, 2-2 Millie Wrack scr, 5-8 Axworth 24, 3-5 Sylvie's Best 36, 9-11 Tiny Guy 36, 13-13 Vice Regal 36, 7-7 Maori Toa 36, 4-3 Safari 48, 10-9 Tall Timber 60. Three-quarters of a length; half a length. Time, 3min 45sec. (Winner trained by J. Fraser, Christ- - church.) The well-fancied Millie Wrack made a bold bid to lead all the way in the 'Army Handicap, being still in command at the distance, but she then started to weaken and was finally beaten into fourth, Highrate coming through with a late run to win by three-quarters of a length from Wee Pandora, with the favourite, Parfaite, half a length back. Lady Tornado early worked clear of Sonny Jewel, with Brungasta and Numba setting out in .pursuit. The quartet were out by themselves crossing the top, but Lady Tornado drew away in the straight to win very comfortably from Brungasta, who was a length in advance of Sonny Jewel. Numba was fourth. ROOSEVELT HANDICAP, £225; 2 miles. 1—1 —Great Deceiver, scr (F. G. Holmes) 1 3—s—Watcher, scr (T. C. Nyhan) . 2 2— 2 —Free Bond, scr (R. B. Tinwald.) Beginning smartly in the Roosevelt Handicap, Great Deceiver stayed there! to the end, though he had little in reserve from Watcher at the post. Free Bond, after, drifting slightly five furlongs from home, came again for third, a couple of lengths back. There was a gap to Highland Scot.
