ENEMY SEA FORCE
MASSING FOR ATTACK?
WASHINGTON. September 9. The Japanese are said to be preparing a desperate thrust to regain the advantage in the Pacific. A correspondent of the Washington "Star" says the Japanese are massing in the mandated islands north-west of New Guinea for a real showdown. A sea armada is preparing to hit at the Allied lines of communication, says the newspaper. Concern is also felt here over reports that the Allied lines to New Guinea are insufficiently protected, and that the Japanese infiltration tactics are still not sufficiently understood. Americans returning from the Pacific say the Japanese are likely to continue sending out small forces to lie low till their hundreds are built into j thousands for a vigorous all-out attack.
