SOLDIERS INJURED
ARMY TRUCK COLLISION WITH TREE
(P;A.) AUCKLAND, September 9. •Eleven soldiers were injured; one fairly seriously, when an Army troop truck hit a tree in Franklin Road, Ponsonby, late this afternoon. All the occupants were taken to the Auckland Hospital, but only five were admitted, ihe others being discharged after treatment; at the! casualty ward. The truck was extensively damaged. "Those admitted were Private W. V. Richardson, who suffered concussion and was in ..a fairly serious condition; Privates T. H. Broome, internal injuries; A.^A. Glanyille, fractured pelvis; A. E. Irving, fractured pelvis; and Lance-Corporal T. Kerr, concussion. The last four men were not seriously ill. -...■:-,..-:,.*,..-,..-: --,;.■, <• >■•.,. ■■■ The truck was proceeding up Franklin Road towards Ponsonby Road. The vehicle struck the tree head on and the engine and driving cabin w.ere very extensively damaged. Such":was the violence of the impact that the steerIng column was badly bent and- the steering wheel broken at the bottom. Some of the. woodwork of the frame was also splintered.
