Plant Gladioli.—Gladioli are indispensable summer flowering plants, of which one can scarcely have too many The first plantings can be made now and successive batches planted at intervals during the next two months to provide an extended show. Select an open, well-drained position for them The corms should be set about six inches apart and covered with two to three inches of soil. •■,'-, Sweet Peas. —Sow now for mid ana late summer display. Deeply dug and manured soil is wanted for good results. Sow three inches apart and one inch deep, and if all the seeds germinate some thinning out of the seedlings will be necessary to give them room for development. Hardy Annuals.—All the favourite hardy annuals may be sown now if the soil is reasonably dry and the weather mild. Plant Perennials such as delphiniums, pyrethrums, daronicums. Michaelmas daisies, phlox,''lupin, geum, coreopsis, iris, and peonies. Chrysanthemums. — Take puttings from the basal growths which are showing up now. Insert them in boxes of sandy loam where they will readily root giving good sturdy plants for October planting. . Transplant Summer Bedding Plants. —There ar.e many in season suitable for formal bedding or for grouping in mixed boi'ders. Renovate the Lawn.--Vigorqus weeds | such as dandelions, daisies, and iplantams can be successfully treated with chemical aids at this season, and so can moss. Average size bare patches will soon fill in with grass if encouraged with suitable fertilisers. If the bare places are sizeable, re-sow with good seed. A new lawn can be sown if you have the site ready.
