FLYING FORTRESSES
Daylight Raid on Austrian
(Rec. 1.45 p.m.) LONDON! Aug. 17. Reports received at Istanbul from Vienna state that United States Flying Fortresses made a recent high-level daylight attack on the important industrial centre of Wiener Neustadt, near Vienna. During the following two days Vienna had five alerts, but no bombs were dropped. • The Germans recently transfer- , red many, war factories from the Ruhr to Wiener Neustadt.
Wiener Neustadt has a strategic situation in lower Austria and has long been an important manufacturing town, building-, among other things, railway rolling stock anfl machinery. '
