CLUB HOSTESSES BUSY
MANY SERVICEMEN GUESTS
This weekend saw no slackening in the pressure of work for voluntary helpers in all Wellington's service clubs.
The Army, Navy, and Air Force Club was busy throughout last week serving meals to queues of men in the cafeteria. Club members were assisted on Wednesday by the Victoria League and on Friday by an Air Force Relations group convened by Mrs. - God.dard. A team of helpers from the Hutt, convened by Mjrs. Ashley Duncan, prepared and served 'supper qn Friday evening. In the evenings the "ballroom was packed with dancers. De Silva's Orchestra supplied the music, and extras were played by Seaman William Bright, Driver V. C. Polwall, and AC/2 C. P. Bowman. The former rule for evening dx'ess to be worn at Saturday night dances has been resumed.
Gifts of provisions havt been received from the following:—Manakau Women's Patriotic Society (hamper of cakes), per Mrs. Marshall Miles; Manakau Younger Set, case of cream'cakes, per Miss Bridie Corbitt; Waihau ; branch'W.D.F.U., per Mrs. G. Perry, | case "of provisions and Vegetables; 'A.N.A. helpers in Marton. two boxes and two sacks of vegetables, per Mrs. S. Simpson; H. C. Chambers. Hastings, two lambs; the manager of the Alton I Co-operative Dairy Company, Patea, a crate of cheese; and donations for pror visions from the Khandallah group, per Mrs. Meadowcroft. The executive !of the A.N.A. Club gratefully acknowledges the receipt of a generous [cheque, the gift of Mesdames L. M. I Doughty and E. M. Hunt. Karori. HER EXCELLENCY ATTENDS. Her Excellency Lady Newall was the guest of honour at the Y.F.H. Club on Saturday night. She was received by Mrs. J. S. Martin, president of the :Y.W.C.A., Mrs. R. Pearson, and Miss 'E. Veitch, vice-presidents, and Miss D. |M. Lynn (general secretary)- The regular workers in the lounge, cafeteria, and kitchen were presented to her Excellency, who saw the men at dinner in the cafeteria, and later visited the hall, where dancing was in progress. Miss Nan Darby, president of the Y.F.H., welcomed her Excellency, who spoke to the Y.F.H. member? and men of the Forces of the work she had : seen in progress in the various departments. Miss Joan McPhee, president of the W.A.A.F. Club, thanked Lady Newall. Members of the Y.F.H. committee, the W.A.A.F. committee. Mr G W. Johnston, and his orchestra were also presented. Songs were sung by a visiting serviceman.
