NAVAL DOCKS AT HONG KONG

LONDON, August 2. A Chungking communique states that American bombers attacked

the naval dockyard at Honr Konr

last Sunday. Ships under repair there were hit and badly damared.

Kowloon, inland from Hong Kong, *nd Kepak aerodrome were also bombed.

A Chinese communique admits th*t Japanese have landed oh the Chekiang fcoast, 30 miles south of Wenchow, and started a drive inland. Other Japanese forces operating from Wenchow have recaptured Tsmgtien. A communique from General Still* well's headquarters states that Americans engaged 29 Zeros over Hengyang aerodrome, and shot down nine and damaged one.

The Japanese fighters were new Zero types believed to have been brought to China specially to cope with' the Americans, but their first engagement was a failure, as all the Japanese bombers fled when their escort was engaged. The Americans lost one plane, but the pilot was saved.
